Complementary colours carefully glide the eye, bringing the entire room into focus, uninterrupted! Softer colour contrasts highlight the unique artwork by Lindy Scholz on the walls as the visual emphasis. Nine years ago Dean & Sarah Shonfeld embarked upon renovating and decorating this exclusive guest house. And today The Parkwood Boutique Guest Lodge has evolved into classic sophistication set in the immaculate gardens of Rosebank. Walking through the courtyard it is easily distinguished as a boutique guest lodge suitable for both leisure and business guests with its fine attention to detail.
Its cutting edge aspect is its home-style comfort! As described by Karla a recent guest when she said, “It is just such a serene and tranquil setting with first-class amenities that is nestled behind private, quiet and secure walls. It’s actually difficult to believe that when there that you’re in the midst of this bustling city – Joburg”. Silver Birch trees with their white-peeling bark gracefully line and romanticize the private gardens of the executive rooms.
The lodge also prudently built around a 50 year old Euonymus tree with thick knotted, intertwining trunks – a defining feature of the courtyard. They have 16 gratifying rooms which are all satisfactorily spacious and include: standard, luxury and executive suites. Another guest Bert Nagel speaks, “The luxury of the rooms are tasteful and the amenities lack for nothing. In addition to staying here we also use it as a conferencing venue and recommend it as an ideal setting.” The conference venue seats a maximum of 18 people, with different seating configurations available, and they offer both full day and half day packages.
Combining work stress with the hassle of traveling can make trips particularly taxing. That is why their ethos makes perfect sense. In a word they describe the guest lodge as “relaxed”. Their latest initiative being to rise to the needs of their loyal guests by introducing a ‘Home-Style’ dinner menu as an added service from September this year! Delicious but simple, choices will allow guests to remain enveloped in the cosy comfort of the lodge and enjoy their evenings even more. In addition to this they are sympathetic to arriving guests weary from travel and have no laborious check-in procedures. There is ample place to unwind and if hitting the gym is your thing to relax, they have a small tailored gym suitable for this.
The surrounding area Rosebank is celebrated for its rich cultural art scene with major galleries situated within walking distance of each other. Also popular for its Al Fresco dining, Rosebank is home to The Firs which offers an intimate selection of retail outlets and dining establishments. Aside from galleries, shopping and dining out there is plenty else to do and the establishment will gladly book you a tour to discover Johannesburg. Also within close proximity is the Gautrain station enabling easy access to both Sandton and the airport.
The Parkwood Boutique Guest Lodge prides themselves in their repeat clientele, many returning year after year. When you grow tired of the mundane hotel on your travels, this five star guest lodge awaits the discerning traveller catering for individual needs. It may be a paradox to say, but they certainly have mastered combining home-style comfort and chic sophistication!
