One of our favorite shows is opening in a few days time, and we’re struggling to contain our excitement.
Decorex is an annual Johannesburg décor and lifestyle expo, and is the biggest event for style, trend and cozy living. The theme this year is ‘Design Your Life’ and it’s a must visit if you’re planning any home changes or if you’re just into décor and design.
There are sofas and daybeds and kitchens and bathrooms and fabric and wallpaper and tables and magnificent swing chairs and lamps and lighting and oh dear, I hope they have a weekend-pass, one day will never be enough!
If you’re rolling your eyes thinking ‘money money money’, don’t. There are top South African designers, Stephen Falcke Interior Design comes to mind, well known furniture stores like Wetherlys, but also a lot of new, local up and coming designers.
And art! Don’t forget art. Twenty-one years ago, at the very first Decorex. I bought two magnificent paintings. The artist was relatively unknown. Sam Nhlengethwa, who is today represented by The Goodman Gallery. Today he is one of our top South African artists today, and apart from the paintings being very beautiful, they were a good investment. Another great reason to go!
Decorex takes place at The Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand. It’s about a forty-minute drive from Johannesburg but if you’re staying at one of the guesthouses in the Parks region of Johannesburg, it makes sense to use The Gautrain. The train takes all of fourteen minutes from Rosebank to Midrand, and then there are Gautrain Buses to get you from Midrand to Gallagher Estate. Easy!
Plan your weekend now. Get a babysitter for the kids. Maybe even book into a Johannesburg Guest House for a couple of nights. Be creative. And have fun!
