Arranging a conference can be stressful. The work that goes into finding the right venue, sourcing the equipment, figuring out the seating and having a plentiful supply of sandwiches, cake and coffee is huge. And that is not the half of it, as any conference organizer will tell you. It’s important to have a room that is quiet, a garden where you can escape to, smaller breakaway rooms, Internet access and substantial and delicious meals.
There are excellent conference venues in our Northern Suburbs, close to all our Johannesburg Guest Houses, and we work well with all of them.
The Glen Hove is excellently positioned in Rosebank, and is perfect for product launches, exhibitions, workshops and corporate functions. It has a two hundred seater fully equipped auditorium with several well-appointed meeting rooms. There is ample parking, excellent on site catering and gorgeous views of the Killarney golf course.
Nearby is the actual Killarney Country Club in Houghton. The club is olde-world and charming, and has a range of venues, all with an extensive array of facilities. The club is as well known for business meetings as it is for party celebrations and weddings, and offers both kosher and halal catering.
In Craighall Park you will find Hackle Brooke, with twelve conference rooms, excellent business facilities, a members only business lounge, mouth-watering menus, and tailor made packages to suit the delegate. They cleverly include transport to and from The Gautrain, and have private locker rentals for the day visitor.
Also in Craighall Park, a personal and creative space is Green Genes. They offer a more holistic experience, combining a business centre with a wellness centre. Their eight seater boardroom is Japanese themed, they have a conference space for forty, and I love their café in the garden, overlooking a sparkling swimming pool.
You may like the idea of ‘working’ in a graceful mansion? The Astrotech Conference Centre is in Parktown, a beautiful and historic part of Johannesburg. The Astrotech is not just about cutting edge facilities and equipment, but also about elegance, light, and natural beauty. They have an excellent business centre, and offer in-house business training, as well as corporate events and workshops. It’s one of our favourite places to recommend.
If you don’t mind going a little further afield and want something cutting edge and ‘urban’, then The Forum at Turbine Hall in Newtown (Johannesburg CBD) is interesting. Turbine Hall is a refurbished power station and is an architectural masterpiece with ultra-modern interiors. It’s a great choice for urban-chic functions, with space for eight or eight hundred people.
It’s important to note that there are large hotels in our Rosebank northern suburbs which all have conference venues. The Hyatt Regency and The Rosebank (Crowne Plaza) Hotel both have a variety of meeting and function rooms, and the venues are excellent. We’re noticing a trend though, – even when the conference is in a hotel, delegates are often choosing to stay in a more personal and intimate Johannesburg Guest House.
And it’s a trend in general. Travellers want charming. They want one-on-one. They want individual attention and they also want privacy.
Remember too, that some of our Guest Houses offer conference space. Have a look at Clico Boutique Hotel, Melrose Place Guest Lodge, House No 1, The Parkwood, de Pinna’s Executive Guest House, Premiere Classe Suites and Rutland House.
So – enjoy your conference. We’re happy to make recommendations for you. But book your accommodation with us, and stay in one of our charming guest houses. You’ll be glad you did. It’s cozy!
